Service Design Advisors

Role

Programme Design Lead / Service Designer

Time on project

3 months

Dates

October 2017 - January 2018

Brief

GDS is moving to deliver digital consultancy services to Whitehall. In particular due to EU Exit, there are parts of government with low capability in digital design and service delivery, who must now deliver services for the first time. Research informs us that embedding GDS designers and other staff from DDaT disciplines in government service teams is a problem.

Objectives
  1. Scope the role of GDS Design Lead for EU Exit
  2. Design and iterate a strategy for design on EU Exit support
  3. Shape GDS's EU Exit support offer
  4. Work towards a service design consultancy that can operate at scale
  5. Ensure EU Exit services meet the Service Standard
Approach
  • Build a team to support departments with user centred design approaches to EU Exit service delivery
  • Design and embed a service-centric triage process
  • Visualise the EU Exit service landscape and map EU Exit issue and programmes to services
  • Establish principals for GDS support
  • Run workshops with service teams in government
  • Visualise the relationship between data, databases, systems, networks and services
  • Learn by doing
